WELCOME

How this site got started:  About 17 years ago I lost contact with my granddaughter, Lissie.  That has never been easy, but it was something I needed to come to grips with.  Then, about 2 years ago, I started to think of myself as being of a grandfather age, and it bothered me that I had never been able to act like a grandfather, as a spoiler and an advisor.  I felt a need to communicate, but I had no granddaughter to talk to.

How this became a need: I couldn’t re-establish contact.  You who have had the misfortune of losing someone to illness, or geography, or divorce or some other family feud can appreciate this.  It is an irreconcilable loss and a need to communicate which can’t be satisfied.  Too often, I felt a hollowness, an emptiness.

What we all need: I imagined being able to share experiences, to answer questions, to add my insight (well, two cents worth…) to events happening around us.  And I also imagined Lissie as a little girl, needing stories, fables, to understand the meaning of the lessons being offered.  We all like stories, and fables, and sometimes TV shows with messages!

The best answer I could find: I was thinking of sessions of talking with Lissie, sometimes with a little story thrown in.  Daydreaming.  But I felt good after my little imaginings and then it struck me!  Why not write letters?!  They couldn’t be mailed, but it would be something real to do.  So I wrote a few letters, and added in a few stories, and had a little peace.

Could there be more? And then I thought that maybe others would find value in my letters and stories, my “Feelings & Fables”.  These weren’t just letters, but topics to think about, ideas to discuss with loved ones, opportunities for families to grow and become happier and healthier!  Some friends liked the stories and the idea of the web site, so here we are!  I have started to put the “Feelings & Fables” into topic groups, but for now I just have a mix of each type.

To find your way around: I have put a few links below which will take you to different areas of the site with information about different things.  Please roam around.  Read the sample.  I have given a little thought about how these ‘letters for families’ and ‘stories for memories’ may be of use to you, so please be sure to click “Ways to Use”.  And I hope you decide to “Join Us!!
